Wang Demonstration

I worked fixing computers for 24 years. My first computer job was with a company called Compu Prose, out of Charleston,West Virginia. They dealt in Wang computers. I was sent to Saint Jo’s Hospital in Parkersburg to set up a computer demonstration in a large conference room. As I set up the equipment, people started filing in to the room. Since this was a catholic hospital, a lot of these people were nuns. It seems that there had been some miscommunication between our sales people and the hospital staff regarding the time at which the demonstration was to begin. Our sales people were still out to lunch, and the room was full of people sitting and impatiently waiting for the computer demo. I finished the installation and tested everything. I then looked around and stupidly said, “Are Y’all here for the Wang demonstration?” Right then the oldest nun of the bunch (I like to call her Sister Mary older than dirt) piped up and said loudly, “ Is it somebody’s birthday?” The crowd roared with laughter. I shook my head and walked outside and waited on the sales people .
